Make A Commitment

Yes, it’s been over a year since I have posted on here.  I would really like to try to keep my blog updated this year.  So hear is my start!
On January 1, Lifetime Fitness sponsored the Commitment Day 5k. A one day, nationwide 5K committed to changing how we live.  Sounds fun right, just how you want to start off the New Year…….running!  Well, Amber told us about it and there was a deal on the entry so we signed up. Amber, Brian, Sara, Zane and I all signed up!
The race was in downtown Denver. We got to the race site about an hour before the start time, maybe it was earlier than that. I thought we should get there early in case we had a difficult time finding parking. Ha! I think we were the first car there. It was about 13* outside, so we waited in the warm vehicle until it got closer to start time. As we were waiting, we watched more and more people come to run on this cold day! It was very cold, I really don’t think I warmed up at all! Brian and Zane kept me going, especially with Brian running backwards to check on us. Thanks for making me feel slow, Brian! All in all it was a good race, I just wish it had been timed. I meant to track it on my phone, but I forgot. Brian tracked it and we came in just under 31:00 minutes. We made outfits to wear for the race! We got iron on transfers for our shirts and Amber, Sara and I made tutu’s!
Have you made a Commitment for 2013?

I came across this blog and thought, this will be my commitment for this year!
13 races in 2013! 1 down, twelve to go!

Hanging with Friends

The first picture is of Max and Kyla at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. The picture was taken on July 31, 2009 in the Mineral & Gem section of the museum. It was the only picture I took at the museum that day. The other pictures were taken the next day at the Dinosaur Tracks on Alameda! We hiked up to the tracks with the Jaramillo’s and down the other side to get a view of Red Rocks Amphitheater.

Our Favorite Spot

On July 4, 2009 we drove our favorite trail in Colorado, Wheeler Lake. We then watched fireworks in Breckenridge that evening.
I realized on the trail that the battery to my camera was not going to last long, so my pictures were all landscape and animals. Before we start the trail we stop at the reservoir and sling rocks. This time there was a squirrel who was quite friendly. Brian fed the squirrel from his hand, which the kids got a kick out of.
When we got to the top of the trail, it started to rain and snow on us. We normally do some hiking up top, but not this day.

I did manage to get a few firework shots before my camera completely died!

Fire Muster!

Just doing a little updating from 2 years ago!!

Back in June of 2009 we went to Arapahoe Community College for the annual Fire Truck Parade and Muster! Kyla and Barrett really enjoyed seeing all the fire trucks and they were able to watch an Air Life helicopter land in the parking lot. They then demonstrated how patients are loaded onto the helicopter.

Kyla was able to take a ride in a soapbox car and practice using a fire extinguisher!

There were several old fire trucks on display!

But I think their favorite part was playing in the foam at the end!

The Start of July 4th Weekend!

We started July 4th Weekend by going to the Chatfield Botanical Gardens on Friday the 1st. It was a free day at the Gardens! The kids enjoyed it, however it was a bit warm to really enjoy it. Emmett slept the whole time we were there walking around. There is a tree house for the kids to play in, but since it was warm I just took a picture of Barrett and Kyla inside and called it good. Afterwards we went to Chick-fil-a! Amber and I then headed to Clement Park and found a spot to park our vehicles where we could enjoy the fireworks later that evening. Zane ended up meeting us where we parked and we walked over to Hops for dinner, where Brian joined us! We walked back to the vehicles, which by that time many others had joined us in the parking lot. We laid blankets on the grass in front of the vehicles and enjoyed the fireworks!

I wasn’t completely prepared with everything I wanted to take firework pictures. But I thought we were going back to the house after dropping off a vehicle by Clement Park. Brian brought me a tripod, so that was good.

43 Weeks

Well I keep finding blankets or material in my stashes to use for my backgrounds for these pictures.  In honor of my parents moving to Maui, I decided to use some fabric that my mom got for me when they lived on Oahu years ago.  I know he could use a haircut, but I love the way his hair curls behind his ears.

42 Weeks

I usually take these pictures in my room, but I use my speedlight to help with the lighting!  On this picture I didn’t give the speedlight enough time to be ready, so it was a bit dark.  I lightened it up to use it (which makes it very grainy), because his expression just cracks me up.

40 Weeks

When I first started taking these pictures it was pretty simple.  Lay Emmett on a blanket take 30 pictures and pick one.  Now it’s hard to keep Emmett on the blanket just for one picture!  So, this will have to do for this week.  I try and give him something to keep him distracted as well, which usually ends up in his mouth! The blanket in this picture was knitted by my Grandma Anne!
