⚠️⚠️!!CHAT!!⚠️⚠️

Hello friends!!!

This week was. Something else. Mostly the last couple days. But. It was a good learning experience… This one might be long. So let’s get into it 🫡

Some random things from this week…
— TWO MONTHS IN THE MISH BB!!! 🥳 I am officially two months on the mission. That is super exciting. — some kid broke his wrist. we didn’t see him brake it but his wrist was not supposed to look like that
— apparently outer banks is coming out with another season Oct 10?? whateva
— did a service and had some BUSS empanadas. Like. They were soo good. The lady also had the FATTEST cat I have ever seen. like. I can’t express to you how fat this cat was. And the moving was so very unorganized.
— we lost Josiah 😔.  His mom told us “oh were not interested.” that was really sad.
— There is an Arab man we see every morning on our walk. And he is always so excited to see us. It is so funny. Gonna miss him 😢
— We got kicked out of a complex!! That was super fun. The guy was super nice abt it so that was good.
— we almost crashed full force into a tesla. But luckily Sis Heaton slammed on the brakes, like literally, and we were safe. So that was exciting!

    That’s it. moving on 👇

Got my first TDOC .(transfer document) SO SCARY. Transfer news came out and guess whaaattttt??!?!??🥁🥁 I’m not staying 🤯😭🤷‍♀️🥹🫨  Kinda sad ngl. Also was not at all expecting to leave. I was under the impression I was staying in Magnolia. But that’s ok. I am going to Sweetwater in Zone 5. I will have Sis Benoit as my companion. Have no idea who she is but apparently she sat in front of us at the Padres game. So that’s cool. I am nervous and excited all at once. And poor Sis Heaton has to trade appartments bc the Swahili elders are getting four people in the area instead of just two. And we live in a four man, so they’re trading apartments. Anyways enough about transfers. Let’s move on. 👇

I had my second exchange this last week. Woot woot!! My exchange was with Sis Aldridge! She is so so fun! She asked me questions on how I’m feeling as a missionary, and things I want to improve on. The point of the exchange was to have me lead the area. She also helped me to figure out my next steps for improving as a missionary! So we set some goals for things I can start working on, and I have slowly been putting them into action!!

The Magnolia ward missionaries had a lil meeting between us 6 and Brother Weber to discuss the issues in the ward. And we concluded that the ward doesn’t have a good relationship with the missionaries and they don’t really fellowship our friends. Along with that we as missionaries could find better people to be baptizing. So we are both in the wrong. Kind of. But. This is like a serious issue bc it makes it hard to baptize people and keep them active when the ward doesn’t fellowship. And missionaries in the past have baptized the most random people and so that’s why the ward doesn’t like us. But. We are working to improve as Magnolia missionaries and the relationship with the ward! yay!

We had some good lessons this week. We had a two lessons with Michelle. And they both went well. She said she wants to get baptized. She was on date and we dk what happened with that. So we have been working to get her ready again for baptism. One of our lessons we talked about baptism and what it entails. And I think she is really interested and she seems really solid. So that’s good!

We stopped over by Tiffany’s Sunday. She recently got a massage chair and it was. SOOO. NICE. She let us use it and it was Heavenly. Really needed that honestly. But that was really good.

Had two member lessons. One was on the exchange and we had some buss tacos. We shared a message abt the bom and it was super that family was super nice. We had another one on Sunday, wild. I was dying Sunday let me tell you. Anyways, it was good, food was good and we read the verse of the day and asked a question abt it. They were high energy and bouncing off the walls. But the dad’s testimony was really good.

We had a lesson with Vanessa. One of our new members. She lives in the scary group home next to the church. We had a spontaneous lesson with her and the spirit was so strong. Like it was really good. I hope she learned a lot cuz ik I did.

Had another lesson with Nahia. I am actually so sad that I’m leaving the Hildebrands. They are so amazing. But the lesson was good. I hope she gets baptized soon. She loves it when I say “answer” everything she says “question.” Gonna miss them.

Had a lesson with Terri and Javier. They are new people. Terri got two bom from her daughter. And so she had us over and we had a lesson. It was really good. Unfortunately she is going to Europe for 2 weeks. So I won’t see her again. But they seemed really interested.

Saturday there was a cutesie music event that the stake put on. It was like Rock and roll 🤘🏻.  But like Christ centered. It was really good, Vanessa went and so did Ginger! That was exciting stuff. I fr thought Ginger was gonna dip on us. But she showed up and it made me really happy!

Sunday. Craazyyyyy. First. We had two new friends that we had contacted a while ago show up to church, and we have lessons set up this week. That’s super cool. Second, we got interrogated abt James’ (the 9 yr old) records. That was fun. Third. We were at Tiffany’s for like almost two hours and my allergies were bad. And then we went to a dinner and they had even more dogs and I was DYING. It was so bad. Fourth. We went to the church and had a district testimony meeting. It was really good! I loved what everyone said. It was very spiritual and very impactful. I took notes and have a testimony journal. And I’m gonna write in it every district testimony meeting, and see how my testimony grows. So that’ll be fun.

Quote of the week —

“do you think God appointed Trump to be a type of savior?” – Orlando (guy we have phone lessons with)

Spiritual Thought —

In our district testimony meeting, I really liked what elder Hancock emphasized about asking for help. And we are all gonna struggle at one point or another. And it is important that we reach out for help. Especially from Christ. Especially when we don’t want to. It can be hard to reach out sometimes bc we think we can do it on our own. News flash 📸 we can’t. We are going to ask for help. And I know that as you put your focus on Christ and ask him for help he will help you, and as you look for it you can notice how he helps you. Jesus loves you!!! And so do I! Never forget !! ♡♡

Hope you are all doing well!!

Peace ✌🏻and love🩵

Small miracles ✨😊

Hello friends!!!

I want to start by saying. This schedule. is catching up to me. I was very tired this week. But that didn’t stop me from having fun and finding people!!

AND. I have officially been in SD for a month!! Woot woot! Super fun stuff! We also hear cop cars at least twice a day. The joys of El Cajon! 🚔

AND. The weather has cooled down. thank goodness!! It has been like 70/75 since Wednesday! So were vibin with weather rn

We’re gonna start with bad news. James said he doesn’t think the church is for him 😭 . So so sad. But he still wants to be friends. And he is still reading the bom, is still going to attend church, and attending all the other extra activities we invite him to. The only thing is that he doesn’t believe in Christ. And we are hoping and praying that one day it’ll just click. And then he’ll get baptized. So that’s what’s goin on with James.

Good news. We had Zone pday!!!! So lit. It was quite fun!! We played elementary school games. Played some sign, some heads up seven up, did a kahoot to see who’s smarter than a fifth grader (my team got second), had some delsh snacks, and played some tag. My district went to a thrift store before that and we got each other goofy outfits. So that was exciting! And then after zone pday my district went to a members house and we played some games!

Some random stories for you… We were knocking on Thursday. Some lady had the whole squishmallow collection of nightmare before Christmas characters and some other halloween characters and I gasped so loud. I prolly scared her bc of how aggressive my gasp was. But I was jealous. They were so so perfect. Anyways. She said we could stop back by and talk to her boyfriend!🤗

Same day, later in the evening around 6:30. We were knocking. And we knock into this lady, she first tells us no she’s a Christian scientist. Had no idea what that was. But then she started asking us questions about ourselves and started getting to know us. And then she tells us to come inside and she basically gave us a house tour of the two rooms that were in the house. And she tells us her whole life story. She’s been like, ALL around the world. And she asked me if I knew an Irish language. And I said shawty. I know I’m ginger but I don’t speak ginger. Anyways. At that moment I wish I could pull out my Scottish accent. Not the point, we were over there for 45 min. Just talking to this lady about her life history. And Sis Heaton is awesome and told her abt family history. It was so goooodddd. But it went right over the lady’s head. But that’s ok. And then she gave us water and let us go. Then me and Sis Heaton ran through sprinklers 😄. That was lots of fun!!

Elder Ure gave us milk in a bag. The most uncomfy thing every. But Elder Johnston thought it was the funniest thing ever.

And we visited Hani again!! We will prolly go back and read the bom in Arabic with him for Sis Heaton to get better at her Arabic.

We had a couple finding miracles this week! On Wednesday we were visiting a grey dot that we’ve been trying to get a hold of. And her son answered and we asked if we could share a message and he was like yeah! And so we shared a verse with him, and he told us that he is wanting to get closer to god and build his relationship!! And he said we could come back!! Yay! So we will visit him again this week!

There’s another dot, Christian, who we have also been trying to meet with, and we finally had a set time. We taught him the restoration and gave him a bom and asked him to read a chapter and pray about it. He was like super into it, and he said he would be happy to meet with us again and learn more! So we will have to find another time, but he seems very promising!

Friday we had a cute little event we went to at 7 at the Mormon Battalion. Elder Hancock asked us at 5pm if we could make a finding goal. And we didn’t see the message till 5:50. And we said bruh. Come on now. And we were like we have 30 min to find someone. Can we do it?? We said yes. And so we called people for like 20 min trying to get someone to answer and get a return date. And finally this guy Orlando answered. He said he’s in and out of SD bc of his job. And so I asked if I could share a scripture. And I shared the verse of the day (life saver and always a good scripture. u should start using verse of the day 👍🏿) And asked him how he sees God. And then he told us that if we called back he would answer and talk with us!! And we. Screamed. Like literally. Cheered for joy in the car! It was so awesome. So we will be calling him again probably Friday!

We had a member referral bc apparently she is having a hard time repenting. So we visited her, and she is lowkey so chill. She is a cop, and she has a really strong testimony. So idk why she’s not going to church. But me and Sis Heaton will def go back next week! Super exciting things.

Sis Heaton and I have a moto of “one step at a time / baby steps.” Because we have been doing things one step at a time. For getting me more comfortable doing things, and just for getting us as a companionship more comfortable with random things. One thing we did this week is visit a member that hasn’t been to church in a while. She lives in this weird group home right next to the church. And we’ve been told to go over there. The first time we did we got scared and left. So we didn’t even see her. The second time we went was on Saturday. And we said we are going in there. And we did. It was lowkey so sketch. But we met this member. Her name is Vanessa. And she was sweet. We invited her to church and she came!!! HIZZA!! We were so happy about it. That is just a fun fear we conquered this last week.

There was an Inspire event. Which is a cute little music event that is out at the Mormon Battalion! It gave the same vibe as a middle school choir concert, but with missionaries and more audience interaction. It was fun and cute. 10/10 recommend 👍! James went and he gave me and Sis Heaton cokes!!! So happy! Anyways. That was fun.

We had a finding blitz on Saturday. That was exciting. Sis Wing joined Sis Heaton and I. LOVE SIS WING!!! We literally just knocked doors for an hour and a half. So not super excited tbh. But it was good. Sis Heaton thinks they’re useless. I agree. Respectfully. Nobody was really found. But that’s ok.

Spiritual thought —

Helaman 14:30 “And now remember, remember, my brethren, that whosoever perisheth, perisheth unto himself; and whosoever doeth iniquity, doeth it unto himself; for behold, ye are free; ye are permitted to act for yourselves; for behold, God hath given unto you a knowledge and he hath made you free.”

We have agency friends. Please always remember that Christ should be apart of your decision. He wants you to choose the right and loves you. Make good choices always and you will see blessings. Be thankful that he has allowed you to choose for yourself! Love you all ♡

Hope yall r doing good! Keep emailing. I enjoy hearing from you! ♡

GO PADRES!!! ⚾️🧢🥳

Hello friends!!!!
We had the opportunity to go to a Padres game this week as a mission. And it was quite the blast. Only issue I had tho. Is the Padres lost. In the LAST inning. Long story short they were winning 3-0 the whole game and in the last inning Detroit decided to get a grand slam, and so then we lost 3-4. Quite unfortunate, but it was still a lot of fun. Missionaries got put on the jumbo tron, we all went crazy it was so funny.

We went bowling on Monday, and got In N Out. That was a good time.

Had dinner with some members. Had spaghetti and some busting Garlic bread. With some yummy apple pie 🥧

There is a lady that wants to meet with us. And she has a CD that she wants us to watch. We’re pretty sure she just wants to bash us abt the BoM. So we will see where that goes.

We had interviews with President and his wife. That went well. In the interview with pres we walked around the gym and he asked me some question. He had some good things to say. There were yummy snacks as well 😋.

Tell me why it’s been 105⁰ outside. Literally, so toasty. According to Domonique this is just a couple day thing. I don’t remember what he called it, but this doesn’t last long. The temp goes down to 90 on Tuesday, and then 80 on Wednesday, and then down to 70/75 on Thursday. And it’ll stay in the 70s. So we are almost there.

We made a friend, Josiah, last Sunday. And we have had a couple lessons with him.  We’re gonna try and get him baptized. He’s in 10th grade and he’s funny.

In our ultimate finding week. We went to a car show, talked with Harry (the goat 🐐), talked to people at the trolley, and went to the mall. The car show was my fav, but the others were good too. It got us thinking abt how we can better start convos.

We did not beat the elders. But we did find a lot of people, and I now have an album of the elders in action and I think it is the funniest thing ever.

If you were wanting to know how James’s baptism went. It didn’t happen 😕. He decided he wasn’t ready, we told him to pray for a new date. Not sure if he’s done that yet. But we will pray with him next time we have a lesson.
ALSO. He doesn’t believe in Christ. He hasn’t told us this but we can assume. We will still teach him and try to get him to understand why it is crucial that Christ performed the atonement. So hopefully we can get him to understand more.

The power generator blew out at the church. And we lost power. So we can’t get into the church and it’s gonna be like super hot in there and someone said it won’t be fixed for a week. Hopefully it gets fixed sooner than later.

Quote of the week —
@Kyla Eagar accept my frend request or I will literally ERASE your freckles ✏️ — Elder Payne.

I befriended elder Payne and so now I’m waiting for a troll doll 😁. Elder Payne gives off top gun but with a little bit of 👉👈

Spiritual thought— Verse of the day

Helaman 13:11: “But if ye will repent and return unto the Lord your God I will turn away mine anger, saith the Lord; yea, thus saith the Lord, blessed are they who will repent and turn unto me, but wo unto him that repenteth not.

It is super important that we repent and we turn to the lord. Please turn to God and he will bless you!

I love hearing from yall! Hope you’re staying cool!! 😎🥶

Zone Conference

HELLO FRIENDS!!!!

Another week down. This week wasn’t too crazy other than we now have someone on date for baptism!!!!! WOOOOOO!!! And this one looks promising. Before we get into that we will start with other good things.

On pday we went to Costco and Chick Fil A, so that was fire. Played a murder game which was fun too.

We had zone conference. It was really good. I missed the breakout rooms bc I was with Sister Heaton and she had to do the training for one of them. So I only got to see one other breakout room, but it was really good. Overall Zone Conference was fire! Food was good too.

Had dinner with Elder and Sister Wing. Sooo yummyyy. We had spaghetti and that was delicious. And Sister Wing made some FIRE, peach cobbler! 🔥 It was like. SO. Good. That was a good meal. We learned that Elder and Sister Wing have gone on 5 missions I think. Crazzzyyy. Also Elder Wing has like. A lot of credentials. Don’t know what for, but that’s what he told us.

We had a Book of Mormon class. And that was good. We read Jacob 5. Longest chapter of my life. But it was good. We played a game of “how many comments can we make doctrinal points?” We successfully hit like 7 points. That was fun.

Had a delish brunch with President Merritt and his wife. 🤌 They have a “healthy rainbow”  That’s like one of their many motos. We had avocado toast and some fruit and some other things and it was so so yummyyy. They had grits. I’ve never had those before. But I wasn’t a fan. Other than that it was great. We did personal study and comp study and those were both good. Overall an amazing brunch.
After brunch we had to scurry over to a guys house so we could do some service!! We had to move mulch into this guys flower farm. He has a farm of Hawaiian flowers. I don’t know the name of them. That was a lot of fun, the elders helped with that. It was good.

There was a Swahili wedding at the church, and the Swahili elders told us we could go after prime time and get food. The wedding was so fun. So much dancing and very loud music 💃🏻.  But it was exciting!!! And the food. DELISH. So good! Wish we got more, but we had to go, unfortunately.

Our friend who is getting baptized is James!! The goat fr 🐐. This is not 9 yr old James. This one is better, he’s like 62. He keeps calling Sister Heaton, Sister Keaton, and it is sooo funny. Anyways. He called us last Saturday asking to go to church, and he was like super excited about it. We found him a ride to church and he was able to make it! He seemed to really like it. And so we have literally taught him everyday this week. Some in person lessons, some call lessons, but he is really wanting to be baptized. He keeps telling us that he wants to do something with his life and be a part of something instead of just sitting around waiting to have a stroke. So. Pray he doesn’t have a stroke before this baptism. 🙏 Anyways. We taught him the word of wisdom, and he said he is going to go cold turkey on drinking coffee and tea. And I was like wow. So good for him. He is preparing and is getting super excited. He believes literally everything we say. The trust and faith in this man is great. He also tells us “whatever you say Sister Keaton. You’re the boss and I’m here to learn.” He is great! Sister Heaton and I are super excited for him. He is going to be so much happier and I know he’s just gonna love it. So I will keep yall updated on that. He also made me a bracelet!!

Bonus. We get to go to a Padres game this week!!! YAAAYYYYY!!!! 🥳🥳  I am so excited. And we’re doing an ultimate finding week. So there will be lots of knocking and lots of convos. Not excited for knocking but I’m getting better. I had my first good scripture read at a door so that was helpful. But bc it’s a competition, Sister Heaton and I will be winning. We just need to beat the English elders and we’ll be good. So stay tuned for how that goes. Super exciting week tho!!

Spiritual thought…
D&C 95:1- Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you whom I love, and whom I love I also chasten that their sins may be forgiven, for with the chastisement I prepare a way for their deliverance in all things out of temptation, and I have loved you.

Reminder. God loves you, always has and always will. No matter what is happening in your life he will always welcome you. And he will wait for you with open arms. Turn to him and he will help you and show you his love for you. #godisgood

Love you all!! ♡  Hope you had a good week. Ttynw!!

Hello friends!!

Another week. This week was really good. Did a lot. Like. a lot. Very very busy. But it’s all good.

On pday, we played secret hitler but mormon version, and we hung out. Later that day there was a lady that left 4 voice mails telling us she doesn’t want us to stop by anymore because we don’t wear masks or gloves. and covid is real. so. That was fun.

BUT. We had exchanges!!!!! So weird ngl. But that’s ok because it was so much fun. Little bit of backstory. Sister Heaton speaks Arabic, she got called to speak Arabic on her second transfer. And so there is a trio of Arabic sisters and that’s who we exchanged with.
I was with Sister Gill and Sister Wait! Joyous people. They are so much fun. Being in a trio for a day was a bit weird but not terrible. I did a day of Arabic work with Sister Gill and Sister Wait. And that was fun. The title of the email is “hello” in Arabic. I know how to say “hello”, “I love you”, “thank you”, “your mom”, and “bye” in Arabic. So I’m basically fluent. And Arabic music is my new favorite music 🎶.
Arabic work was a little different than English work. A lot more knocking on doors than anything, but it was still good. Also got to try some Arabic food. Was pretty delicious. ALSO, had my first member dinner on the exchange!! Unfortunately I am allergic to nuts and we didn’t tell them abt that because we spaced it. And the main course had peanut butter. So couldn’t eat it. But the rice and fruit was good 👍.

We had some good lessons this week. We had a lesson with Tony and Theresa talking about the word of wisdom. They are preparing to take out their endowments in October!!! Very excited for them!! But they are moving unfortunately😔.
Had a lesson with an inactive member. And we convinced her to go to church! She also brought her daughter who we’ve been trying to contact for forever. That was amazing!
We had another lesson with James. I’m pretty sure I learned more in that lesson than he did. When we got there he was playing fortnite. We tried teaching the plan of salvation. During our lesson Haeleigh (his mom) got a call and put Serenity (the one year old child) in a room and then walked outside. Serenity was then screaming and James proceeded to turn on the TV to play fortnite. We told him we weren’t done and got his attention so we could finish our last thoughts. Then he went outside. That was a bit frustrating but it’s fine.
Nahias lesson was good. She asked us more questions and I’m pretty sure we answered them well. I gave her a prayer checklist and also gave Liana a painted book of mormon. so hopefully they enjoy those.

We had a friend come to church with us! He called us Saturday morning and asked if he could go and we said yes of course. He sounded super excited. And he did indeed go to church. He also gave me and sister Heaton necklaces and a bunch of earrings. so that was very nice of him. We will hopefully have a lesson with him tonight. And we’re gonna out him on date for baptism. He seems into it so we are very hopeful.

We also had Zone conference this week and sister Heaton has to do a breakout room. So that’ll be exciting.

I MET HANI!!!! There’s this Arabic man that the sisters keep talking about. And I FINALLY met him! He got baptized a year ago and he’s a Saint. He calls all the sister missionaries his daughters. And he gave us soda and some other stuff. A kind gentleman. He is so friendly and loves his sister missionaries! We call him Amoo Hani. Which means uncle Hani. I’m excited to see him again!

Spiritual thought…

Alma 62:49 “But notwithstanding their riches, or their strength, or their prosperity, they were not lifted up in the pride of their eyes; neither were they slow to remember the Lord their God; but they did humble themselves exceedingly before him.”

Be humble. As we humble ourselves we can feel the presence of God, and be lifted up through god. Always remember God. This week, think of ways that God blesses you in your everyday life. And remember those ways so you can feel closer to God and feel his love for you. I know he loves each of you and is watching over you. He wants you to look towards him for help. Always turn towards God and he will bless you! ♡

Love all of you! Hope you are all doing well and are thriving!! ♡

Peace✌🏻and love ♡

BIRTHDAY TWINS 🎂🥳

8/19/2024

HELLO FRIENDS!!!!!!!

So I made it to San Diego safe and sound guys, don’t worry… I may or may not have slept in 20 extra minutes on the day we were going to SD but I made it. That’s all that matters.

And if you’re questioning the title, yes I have a birthday twin. MY COMP!!! We’re born on the same day but one year apart. CRAZY!! Literally can’t get over it. Anyways. Love Sister Heaton. She’s amazing. Absolute best trainer out there!

Mission life is like. lowkey craazzyyy. But I have been having an absolute BLAST. Everyday is so so busy. We’ve had so many contacts. And one issue is that both of us are new to the area. so we dk much abt the area. That’s fun. An adventure to figure out who knows what.

I’m in Magnolia, aka El Cajon, aka somewhere in Zone 7. Geographically I have no idea where I am. But I’m loving it.

MTC OVERVIEW
They told me the food was gourmet. That was NOT. gourmet. but. it was edible. So it was fine. AND THE COKE WAS DIET AND CAFFEINE FREE. Caffeine is not against the word of wisdom. So what. the. heck.
Last day of MTC we had a devotional and guess who spoke. David A. Bednar. Willdddd. It was so so good. He talked abt the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith. Pretty cool stuff.
Overall the MTC was pretty lit 🤟. Had a lot of fun with the district and made some pretty cool friends 😎. And yes we did play a lot of foos! And I beat everyone. Except Elder Moulton. so. boo that but I beat everyone else. It was a lot of fun!

CALI OVERVIEW
PALM TREES 🌴. There are so many palm trees. I.Love.It. They’re my new favorite thing. There are also lots of lizards.
Gas Is like $4.56. That’s like almost 5 bucks. Almost FIVE. WHOLE. DOLLARS. 🤯 absolutely insane bonkers.
Cali burritos are fiiirrreeeeee 🔥. They’re literally so so yummy. Had it on the first day here and they were delish. 10/10 recommend. 🌯
There’s also always a homeless person yelling everywhere you go. gotta love it. There’s a lot of homeless here. like. a lot. But that’s ok. As long as we mind our own business it’s all good. 👍
Saw a furry. And two cyber trucks 🤢. Nasty. one of them was bright blue too. Anyways next topic.
Some guys were listening to Fetty wap on Thursday. So that was lit 🔥. And Cali drivers are crazy. insane drivers.

MISSIONARY OVERVIEW
It’s oh so much fun. I am LOVING it. We have done a lot of knocking (which is my least favorite thing to do . But this is for God and not me. so we deal). Most of the time no one answers. but we have gotten a few answers and invited them to church or to pray. We’ve also done a lot of contacting. Which I’m also not a fan of just bc we call people and I don’t like calling. But we deal. It’s actually not that bad. But we did have a lady yell at us over the phone because we called her twice. so that was fun 😬.
Sister Heaton and I got some good Mexican food at Sombrero Mexican. Bussing. So good. Gave Tacos Rapidos vibes. So so yummy.
Anyways, there’s a lot of different cultures. very diverse area. It’s actually so cool. There’s 9 different languages in the CSDM (California San Diego Mission). So that’s also really cool. It’s been so much fun.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEEK
We visited a 100 yr old lady. She was so so sweet and she had such a strong spirit. Like. SO. Strong. I imagine that she’s like Abuela (my great Grandma) if she spoke English. We also had to yell at her bc she’s hard of hearing. She also has dementia. But her advice was to “enjoy your life”. So do a Lilian Downs says and enjoy your life.
We also have someone on date for baptism. Ha. Literally second day here, very first lesson, put someone on date. Don’t think it’s gonna happen, but we have faith. Her names Monique. She’s a sweetheart and talks a lot. But I’m pretty sure she’s moving. So we will see.
We have taught a couple 8 year olds. One of the is James. He’s so sweet and really into his drone. He’s on the spectrum. But he’s fun. We will probably stop teaching him bc the Lakeside Sisters are gonna teach him. His dad Lives in Lakeside and that’s where he goes to church. We also taught the Hilldibrands. Niaya is 8 and had literally the deepest questions I’ve ever heard. I was like, brutha, how are you coming up with these questions. But I think we had good answers. She’s also on the spectrum and she’s a sweetheart. She gave us nicknames. Mine is Miss Nice, and Sister Heaton’s is Cutie.
There’s also a mom, Liliana. And she has 12 yr old daughter, Adamaris, with disabilities. So basically everyone one here is special needs in some way shape or form. Which is kind of lit, ngl. But Liliana has a strong testimony, and she only got baptized like a month ago I think. I’m excited to see her continue to progress.
There was another lady whose name is Maria. She walked an hour to the church Sunday so the Elders could give her a blessing. She is so faithful and doesn’t even know it. Elder Ure gave a pretty amazing blessing and the spirit was so strong. She shed a couple tears bc some things he said really impacted her. So that was really cool.
On Saturday a lady called us asking if she could go to church. We found her a ride and she went to church! Her name is Kim. So hopefully we’ll see more of her.
Overall I’m having so much fun. Life in Cali is a blast, and life on the mission is even more fun. We did a hike this morning with our district, which was so so fun. My district is pretty lit. This transfer is going to be so so much fun and we’re gonna have so so much work to do. I think that’s about all. Hope everyone’s had a wonderful week! Miss and love you all! 🩵

Called to Serve

Kyla received her mission call back in March of 2024. Here is the video of her opening her call while at BYUI. I am bringing the blog back to life and will be posting Kyla’s missionary emails and photos. Kyla started her mission training on July 22 at home, entered the MTC on July 31, and made it to San Diego on August 14.

Hand Surgery

Isaac was fairly content this morning waiting for surgery.  Of course once he realized we were not giving him a bottle his attitude changed a bit.  We spoke to his Plastic Surgeon, Dr. French, before surgery and she said she had been thinking a lot about Isaac.  She wasn’t certain that he needed to have a palate repair at this time.  Isaac makes it hard for anyone to get a good look at the back of his mouth.  We decided to have her get a good look at his palate after being put under and determine if he in fact needed a repair.

Early morning bed head

We were able to take Isaac back to the OR around 8:15am.  We then went to sit in the waiting area, knowing we’d hear from Dr. French or the OR Nurse on whether or not the palate surgery was taking place.  Well about 15 minutes later Dr. French came out to let us know that she got a good look at his palate and he does not need palate repair at this time.  What a relief, this kid can still enjoy his bottles.  His bottles are his comfort and had he had his palate repaired he would not be able to have a bottle for 2 to 3 weeks.  Prayers have been answered!!  Heavenly Father sure has an interesting way of testing us, as this is the second time we’ve prepared ourselves for a surgery and it was not needed.  It definitely proves to us that his Doctors are providing the best care for Isaac and his development.

As for his Syndactyly release, Dr. Scott released his pinkies today.  We had thought it would be his index fingers, but he decided to start with his pinkies.  His hands are wrapped in Coban and he will keep those on for 3 weeks.  We originally were told he would have full casts.  We will not need to do dressing changes for the first 3 weeks.

Since Isaac only had hand surgery today, we are able to go home after spending a couple of hours being monitored in recovery from anesthesia.  We are excited to start 2016 outside of the Hospital!

“De-ported”

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted.  Last week I was “de-ported”, as the radiology team likes to say.  In other words, I had my chest port removed.  I had a CT scan a couple weeks ago and it showed no evidence of disease, YAY!  I asked my Oncologist if I could have my port removed if things looked good.

It has been three months since I had my last chemotherapy treatment.  My body still aches, but I am feeling stronger each day and my hair is growing back.  Before you know it, I’ll have enough hair to comb and style!  My eyebrows and eyelashes are coming back in full force.

This year we seem to frequent Hospitals as much as others go to the grocery store.  So, we are finishing our year off with a Hand & Palate surgery for Isaac.  Isaac will have his palate repaired, which will improve his swallowing and speech.  He will also have his first syndactyly release to give him index fingers on each hand.

We are not exactly looking forward to the recovery for this surgery.  Very much hoping that the time goes by quickly.  As much as we love his hands how they are, we are excited to see his development as he goes from a mitten to separate fingers.

We had Family in town for Christmas!!  I will post more on that, but wanted to share a couple pictures.

Fight Like an Eagar

I had my last treatment of chemotherapy today.    I was a bit nervous I wasn’t going to be able to get it as I spent the weekend in the hospital.

I am so ready to start healing and returning my body to normal, if there is such a thing! Hoping the next few days are nothing like last week.

My last chemotherapy treatment

After my treatment last Tuesday I felt pretty good and then by Wednesday afternoon I had nausea and was vomiting.  I could not keep anything down.  Zane took me to the ER on Friday night.  They ran labs and my kidney function was low and my magnesium was low.  I ended up being transferred to the hospital and admitted.  Saturday morning my potassium was  very low, to the point that I was .1 away from it being critical.  I was given 6 bags of potassium on Saturday and labs were done again.  After all that potassium my numbers only went up by .1. I had another 6 bags overnight.  Sunday morning my potassium had come up, so I was able to take pills instead of doing the infusions, but my magnesium was low.  By the afternoon my numbers had come up enough that they gave me the ok to go home.  So, Zane brought me home Sunday evening.

Here I was in the ER. I had some major dark circles under my eyes.

I will be getting my abdominal port out on Friday, but I will be keeping the chest port in for the time being.  I will need to have bloodwork done each week to check my chemistry.  If my levels are low, I will have to go in to the infusion center and receive whatever is low.  I will also be getting Scans done again in 3 months.

I feel like I can’t thank everyone enough for their support.  If there is one thing that we (Zane and I, especially Zane) usually don’t do, is ask for help.  We have no problem giving of ourselves to help others, especially Zane.  So many of you have just stepped up and didn’t give us a chance to say “no, we’re ok” and for that we are extremely grateful.  I feel so blessed to have such wonderful Family and Friends.  Thank You and We Love You!!

I’m posting the link to the shirt fundraiser if anyone is interested.
