Early addition.

I seem to be having a hard time keeping this blog updated this year. We have added a beautiful addition to our family. In January we found out we were expecting. Since we have a girl and a boy we decided to keep the gender a surprise this time. My due date started out as September 28th and my Dr. Changed it to Oct. 1st and at my last appointment he mentioned Oct. 5th. I still went by the 28th.
I had seen my Doctor on the 31st of August for my 36 week appointment and everything looked great, so he had me cancel my next appointment, which would have been on the 9th, and would see me in two weeks. He also went out of town on the 8th for a long weekend.
Well, Thursday I was getting the kids and my self something to eat when I felt cramping and had a shortness of breath. I then felt the cramping(a lot like menstrual cramps) throughout the day, I still had three weeks until this baby would make an appearance, so I thought that the cramps were just a preparation. (I have only been induced, so these feelings were new for me). We put the kids to bed that evening and headed to bed ourselves a few hours later. I woke up at 2:30am and the cramping was stronger, so I decided I would take a bath. I noticed a slight red tint to my urine, so I decided to take a shower and then I would call the Doctor. When I got out of the shower I had a bloody show (sorry don’t know how to word it better). I called the Nurse hotline and after talking to a nurse for a few minutes she told me I should go to the hospital.
I proceeded to wake up Zane, who asked me if I was ok, which I replied, “no”. He then made me laugh and a bit nervous by saying, “You’re having a baby!” That’s a possibility. We called our dear friend who lives a block away and he came and sat with the kids. We left the house around 4 am and headed to the hospital. I really didn’t want to be sent home from the hospital, but I also didn’t want to have a baby before my mom could come, who now lives in CA.
We registered and a labor and delivery nurse took us to the L&D triage to check me. The nurse thought she’d be sending me home, but to everyone’s surprise I was already at 7cm. I was put in a room, it was about 5 am at this point, and told that the anesthesiologist was in a cesarean and would be 30 to 40 minutes. Holy Cow did the contractions get stronger in that time I waited for him. I honestly thought I was out of luck. The Doctor that was on call was delivering a baby at another hospital, 15 minutes away(my nurse didn’t tell me that until afterwards). The anesthesiologist came at 5:45, put the epidural in and I felt soooo much better. The Dr. Had arrived and broke my water and about 5 minutes later I felt the pressure, WoW! I pushed through 3 contractions and our baby boy arrived showering the doctor! They placed him on my belly for a few minutes.
Unfortunately since it all happened so fast he had swallowed fluid and inhaled it as well. He was placed in the NICU under an oxygen hood and was given an IV and antibiotics to protect him from infection. He has been doing really well and was moved to a room and is off the IV and on a canula for oxygen now. I am hoping that he will be able to head home Sunday, but it quite possibly could be Monday.

We had not decided on a name, but finally have now. We named him Emmett Zane! He weighed 7 lbs, was 19 inches long and he looks like Zane. You’ll have to wait for pictures as the camera was out in the truck and I haven’t taken it into the NICU with me.

I will try and do a better job at keeping our blog a little more up to date!
